The Perfect 7-Day Itinerary for a Teton Valley Family Vacation
A week in the Teton Valley is the perfect recipe for an epic family vacation, and you can make it work in any season with a little planning. Here’s a flexible 7-day itinerary that mixes Jackson Hole classics and Teton Valley adventure, whether you’re visiting in summer sun or winter snow.
Day 1: Settle In and Explore Jackson
After you arrive, get settled and stretch your legs in Jackson. Let the kids burn off energy at the Teton County Recreation Center with its pool, water slide, and rock climbing wall, or take in art and wildlife through interactive exhibits and a kids’ gallery at the National Museum of Wildlife Art. Take a family photo in front of the iconic elk antler arches in Town Square, then grab dinner at a family-friendly spot like Pinky G’s Pizzeria. (Pinky G’s has locations in Jackson WY and Victor ID)
Day 2: Grand Teton National Park
Head into Grand Teton National Park for a day of outdoor adventure that works in all seasons. Take the shuttle boat across Jenny Lake and do the short hike to Hidden Falls, or cruise around the lake for gorgeous views. Keep an eye out for wildlife—moose, deer, and eagles are frequently spotted.
In summer, pack a picnic by the water, or if you’re visiting in winter, snowshoeing can be a fun way to experience the landscape. End the day with a cozy dinner at Dornan’s Pizza Pasta Company in Moose.
Day 3: Snake River and Scenic Fun
Book a scenic float trip along the Snake River for a gentle adventure perfect for young kids and older adults. In summer, consider kayaking or paddleboarding around Jackson Lake. For winter visits, swap the float for a horse-drawn sleigh ride across the National Elk Refuge, a must-do experience that lets you see thousands of elk up close. Dinner could be burgers and fries at Sidewinders Grill in Jackson, where the kids can hit the game room while the adults relax.
Day 4: Mountain Play Time
An active day on the mountain is perfect for adventurous kids and teens. Ride the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Aerial Tram or try the mountain’s summer adventure park with ropes, climbing walls, mountain biking, trampolines, and a bungee trampoline. In winter, loads of snowy fun await with family ski runs (including beginner terrain) and snow tubing at King Tubes. Wrap up the day with dinner in Jackson at a relaxed place like Bubba’s BBQ. The kids’ menu and a wide array of decadent sweet treats will keep the whole group happy!
Day 5: Choose Your Own Adventure Day
Keep this day flexible so you can repeat your family’s favorite activity or try something totally new. Explore additional trails around the Teton Valley or take a family horseback ride across rolling meadows to enjoy the scenery at a relaxed pace.
In warmer months, find a shallow spot at String Lake or Taggart Lake—both are great for easy wading and picnics, with spectacular mountain views. If you’re visiting in winter, swap lakes for a cozy afternoon soaking in the natural geothermal pools at Astoria Hot Springs. Round out your day with a relaxing family dinner and game night at your vacation rental.
Day 6: Local Culture
Have a slow morning with a great breakfast or brunch at local family favorite The Bunnery before exploring local shops and galleries in Jackson. To learn more about the area, hit up the small but mighty History Jackson Hole exhibit, which features an engaging kids room.
If you’re visiting in summer, the Jackson Hole Rodeo is a fun evening activity if your kids are old enough to stay up late (gates open at 6:30pm and the rodeo starts at 8pm). Kids can get into the arena for fun activities and adults can enjoy the Western flair. The rodeo is on Wednesdays and Saturdays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. For dinner, there’s a full concession stand with burgers, dogs, beer, etc. Or stop by Snake River Brewing for some good eats for the whole family before the rodeo (and some delicious craft beers for the adults).
Day 7: Last Looks
Spend your final morning enjoying a leisurely breakfast at your vacation rental, or maybe hitting up your favorite Jackson café one more time. Swing through Town Square for last-minute souvenirs and a quick playground or park stop, or you might opt for one more short stroll along the Teton Valley floor to say goodbye to those dramatic peaks.
